In the work of Gijs Assman an analysis playfully takes place of images and symbols of death and transcience. By combining this theme of death with everyday objects, he mocks both and the transcience of life. The melancholy that it brings forth becomes his subject matter. “ A threatening shadow hangs over Gijs Assman’s paradise and God alone knows which direction it will take.”
