John van 't Slot’s East Indian ink drawings are a continuation of the idea that a stand must be taken against easily formed assumptions. The notion that ‘ anything goes’ in the arts is a notion that often falls short in practice. As painter/artist you are quickly bound to that what the public knows/expects of you and experimentation is excluded. John however, regularly wants to address the many sides of a subject/theme. Therefore, he permits both figuration and abstraction, narrative or classical rendering. Those of you who regularly see his work will recognize his style but the resulting work and manner of execution may surprise you.
