Jeanne van Heeswijk: art intallation visualizes cultural production network

From 14 till 24 February the 11th edition of Artefact Festival will take place in art centre STUK in Leuven, Belgium. During this festival the installation Works, Typologies and Capacities 1993-2012 of Dutch artist Jeanne van Heeswijk will be on show. This monumental installation, existing of 3,500 potatoes of 27 different races, was only presented two times before (in NGBK,Berlin, 2004 and De Paviljoens,Almere in 2007).

Theme of the Artefact Festival will be The Social Contract. The installation of Van Heeswijk visualizes the network of people and organisations she has developed and realised her projects with since 1993. Every participant is a potato ,every race representing a different line of work. Thus an artist is an Eigenheimer, a filmmaker a Premiere, a musician a Melody and an activist a Red Star. Coloured metal connections show the nature of their contribution and whether people/organisations were also involved in other projects.

The 4 metre high work is a 3D interpretation of jeanneworks.net, Van Heeswijk's website, developed by Maurits de Bruijn (NL) and fully updated for Artefact. Apart from the installation and website a print version may also be seen, including a legend with all occupations, potato races and connections. Works, Typologies and Capacities 1993-2012 was realised with the support of Agrico, Averis, HZPZ Holland, KWS Potato, Landjuweel, C. Meijer, De Nijs, Rungis, Schaap Holland, Stet Holland and TPC.
